HPV and the cancer connection

This vaccine against HPV and the warts they bring may help to get the virus destroyed that causes cancer.

HPV, which can cause genital warts, can also be the culprit towards cervical cancer in some women. These women tend to be the most at risk when they are between the ages of 18 and 30. This is why it is argued to give them the vaccine WELL BEFORE they are at risk. The age 10 is what is approximately recommended which angers some people since they don’t think that it makes sense to have there child put in that position of vaccination against an STD so early. But this argument just doesn’t hold water. Why would we want to vaccinate them before they can receive the full value of protection against this vaccine? Waiting just increases the chances of wasting when it comes to viral infection of HPV.

For decades women have undergone tests, which screen for various signals of cancer. However, the new HPV vaccine will prevent infection and thereby destroy the chance of getting any cancers that these viruses cause.

Evidence has accumulated to bring to light the fact that viruses can cause cancer in humans. Kaposi’s sarcoma, a specific form of skin cancer, has been linked to a virus. We now understand better that viruses can indeed cause some kinds of cancer.

Viruses and disturb cells at there very core. By disturbing the normal functioning of the cell, it can become cancerous. One cancer cell then multiplies until a tumor is formed. The cancer cells then move along to other parts of the body or metastasize.

When considering HPV, the cells of the cervix become infected. After initial infection the cells then undergo changes after time and then get to become cancerous.

The vaccine will bring the body the proper antibodies to fight off infection when the HPV enters the body. By preventing the infection we will prevent cancer associated with this virus.

We think that the fact that we can prevent this cancer with a vaccine is a fantastic advance. It allows future cancer prevention and bring an improved understanding on how cancer begins at the cellular and molecular levels. These are very key functions to prevent cancer and maybe be able to eradicate an existing case of cancer one day.
